History
A walk down memory lane and past lives
2024 - present:
Relocated to Kamloops, BC. Getting settled and looking forward to the local music scene.
2022: Was recognized in CIVIL Radio's Blues Artist of the year competition
2020 - 2024: In studio song development with The Otis Kry Band (never has the music sounded sweeter)
The Otis Kry Band has many changes in members but the latest version consisted of: Art Hine, lead guitarist and vocals, Rob Nagle, Drums, vocals, Bass Johan ? Mark Ardley Keys and Harp, vocals and of course myself Otis Kry. What a great bunch of guys. We did a few off the floor (live) video's. We had performed at the Elks hall in Abbotsford, for the Fraser Valley Blues Society. We also did a short session at the "Church Of Blues" in Dewdney, B.C. Unfortunately I got a 9-5 job after being retired for 14 years, in Kamloops. I'm going home. Leaving my band and these great musicians was the hardest thing that I ever had to do.

With the help of all the members of "The Otis Kry Blues Band," these creative music collaborators, old and new creations were fleshed out and revitalized by breathing old experience into a new life. This “performance ready” transition of the songs and show that made up The Otis Kry Band has took a long time to form and get all the right pieces together. "I am truly thankful for all these special people." - Otis Kry.
2016: From The Deep album
After two years of playing with TOAD I wanted to get my own music heard by the masses and I went into “Marpole Studio's” in Langley, B.C. to record my third album “From The Deep.”
The album was produced by long time friend Rob Begg. The album, "From The Deep," is heard on countless online Radio Stations in Canada and throughout the world and is a favourite with many DJ's. there are fans as far away as Europe. Of course, "From The Deep," is available on Spoltify and Itunes.
Oliva McAstocker
Never have I been so proud as to have my daughter Olivia sing back up on this album. I needed all the help I could get and Olivia made these recordings so special, thank you Jo.
One Night with, "The Stage Fright," thanks for the good times
after the album "From The Deep," was released, Clive Barrett and I performed with“Stage Fright” “Clive Barrett.” was another recording artist who sought out Rob Begg to produce his album, "Wall Of Storms."
2010 - 2012: The TOAD years
I played bass with a band I created called TOAD who was shortlisted to compete for the International Blues Competition held at the Princeton Pub in 2012.
in 2010 I formed yet another cover band called, “TOAD.” Here I fall short of naming all the players: Mark Ardley on Keys, Terry (Toad) on Drums, Lead guitarist Justin Spivey, Jimmy (the stick) Fyfe on lead vocals. Rhythm guitarist (Keith Willamson).
Again another band I started, going through all the interview and auditions of each and everyone - fabulous guys but didn't last too long. We played various venues mostly in the Langley and White Rock area of B.C.
One of my lasting memories was playing for the Sherriff departments Christmas party. Our lead guitarist a Crown Prosecutor, obtained official convict uniforms from a local institution. At our break we all dressed in prison attire and paraded through the crowd to go back on stage. There was shock and wonder until we started playing, "Jail House Rock". Toad rocked the house that night.
Of course "TOAD" played for an International Blues Competition at the Princeton Pub in 2012. We opened up with one of my original songs, "Traffic Jam." An amazing event with amazing crowd. but we never made it to Memphis.

2000- 2006 - Bad Credit:
“Bad Credit” was a blues band headed up by Dale Abbey a fantastic lead guitarist. I started playing Bass with Dale on lead, Mark Ardley on Keys and a drummer I apologetically have forgotten his name. I remember playing "Red House and Little Wing" by Jimmi Hendrix and Dale made it sound like Jimmi was alive playing in our basement. It was a great learning curve for a new bassist, Thanks Dale.
Around the same time “Rough Edges” found me. Apparently they needed a bass player and I was one. Rough Edges was comprised of Darryl Derksen, front man,/rhythm guitarist, Paul Demers keyboardist, Rob Glaim, Drums and the fabulous Simon Harris on Lead guitar. Our favorite place to entertain was the 14th ave. Pub in Mission, B.C. We played the legion and other venues but always gravitated back to the 14th. Rough Edges was a great party band and holds very fond memories. Rough Edges played until 2006 when Darryl moved up country and finally ended up living in Tapen, B.C.
2006-2008: Brick Yard came calling
I was working a 9-5 at London Drugs in Maple Ridge B.C. and my manager introduced me to a drummer, "Rob Malof," who was looking to start a band. I was talking to some fellow workers, Steve Blaine lead guitar and frontman, Bob Bell, multi-instrumentalist, we had a good run playing at different venues and staff Christmas party's and even my managers birthday party at his house, thanks for the ride guys and that brings us up to 2008.
1970-2000:
Adulthood, marriage and fatherhood forced public performances to take a back seat to responsibility.
1969 - 1970: The Wickram Stew and The Brody Blues Band
Finishing high school off at Kam-High In Kamloops, B.C. "Wickram Stew" was with my good friend Don Johnson on Bass. We jammed a lot but never played any gigs but that led me to finding a different group and Brody Malcom. Brody was a blues harp player and singer again, Don and I did a lot of jamming but never got the project off the ground. Thanks for the memories Brody.
1967- 1968: The Back Street Carnival years
A product of the 60's Otis Kry played with the “Back Street Carnival” in the years of 67 – 68. Best years for learning to play in a band. Larry Frisk lead guitar, Jeff Bowman on Bass, Harvey Jackson on drums and myself known as Pat Bateman on 12 string rhythm guitar. We lived in Prince Rupert B.C. Canada and played the usual high school hops, did lots of shows at the "Fisherman's Hall."
Loved playing on Friday and Saturday nights at the church, called "The Fishing Hole." Backstreet toured Alaska a couple of times, played graduation in Kitimat. We were booked to play until there was no more dancing. I remember when other bands in the area were finished playing there gig, they came to see us play and the next thing you know we were spelled off and were playing with different members of different bands.
Backstreet never let me sing but apparently around four in the morning I did a great job of singing Louie Louie.
Backstreet was offered a record contract with Mercury Records but was turned down because some members wanted to finish school ( or their parents did.) The best part of this is, Larry Frisk and I remain friends after these many years. Thanks for teaching me, "C-F-G" Larry, funny thing is, I still remember how to play those chords.
1950:
Born in the fall of 1950, Pat Bateman was raised up in Prince Rupert and moved to Kamloops in his teens. Got married. had a family. moved to Vancouver where Otis Kry was born. out of necessity. when searching for a website name. Unfortunately "Pat Bateman" in an online search reveals a "Gay Porn Star," or "American Psycho" book phenom, serial killer. Neither one did I wish to be associated with. When I was doing the recording of "From The Deep," Rob Begg the producer said I sounded like the legendary "Otis Redding," and that's where Otis came from. "Kry" just came to me like picking songs out of the cosmos. That's the birth of "Otis Kry."
